It is important to know how to set up a motorhome correctly when you arrive at the campsite, not only for your family’s safety but also so you can truly enjoy your time spent in the the luxury motorhome.

This information below is very useful as a checklist if you are a newbie to the motorhome world. It is also helpful if you are an RV veteran as you will get to know more about our specific Avan premium models.

Setting up Campsite

Park the motorhome on the spot
When you arrive at your campsite the first thing you will have to do is locate your booked spot. When booking the spot, don’t forget to mention the RV type and size you are travelling in because the size of campsites sometimes vary and you want to make sure you have enough room to park the motorhome. When it comes to parking the motorhome, a second pair of eyes to be your spotter will be a great help! The second person will hop out of the motorhome and provide you with hand signals to direct you safely and securely into the booked site. Now you will need to turn off the engine and remember, make sure the handbrake is on!

Plug your motorhome into power
Plug in the power cord to the 15 amp point that is normally located at the back of your parking spot and don’t forget to keep an eye out for this when you are backing the van into the spot. Another handy tip to remember when setting up your Motorhome electrics is, keep the cords organised! This will make your life ten times easier when it comes to the time you have to pack up and head home.

Turn on the electrics
-Turn on the hot water heater (wait 15 mins before you can use it)
-Water pump
-Fridge will be automatically running on power
-Air con/ heater

These electrics can be used now:
Bluetooth sound bar (if applicable)
Microwave
DVD player
Oven
Washing machine (if applicable)

Set up your sewer support system
Setting up the sewer support system is never a job that people look forward to doing but it has to be done! The Sewer support system is a black colour water hose and you will need to connect it to the dump point located at the back of the camp spot. One recommendation I would make is, wear gloves! Best to try and keep this job as sanitary as possible, that way you can enjoy your afternoon cheese platter without a worry in the world.

Connect your water system
Much like the sewer support system, the water tap is also located at the back of the camp spot and this hose in coloured white. Having running water while you are camping is truly luxurious and you will be thankful for this when you can enjoy your nightly/morning shower in the comfort of your own van… can’t do that in a tent!

Turn on the gas bottle
It’s time to turn on the gas bottle and if this one runs out, don’t worry we have provided you with a spare! Use the key to unlock the cover located near driver’s seat door.

Set up your awning
Use the handle provided to open the awning. Set up the two arms and secure them into the brackets on the motorhome body, then use the awning Tie Down Kit that we will provide you to securely fix the awning to the ground. When it comes to awnings you must remember they can not withstand the wildest of weathers so if you know the rain is coming or it’s going to be a windy night, best to roll the awning back in for peace of mind!

Leaving Campsite

Make sure you retract everything you have set up above.

When it comes time to pack up and head home, you must remember to retract everything you have set up above. That is why it’s best to be mindful when you are setting up that everything is arranged in an organised and orderly fashion. Your post holiday self will definitely thank you for it!   Another thing to keep in mind is to find the camp spot exactly how you have found it. A lot of camp spots are based in National Parks which usually means there are a lot of native fauna and flora around and nothing’s going to interfere with their ecosystem more than rubbish and litter being left at the camp spots.
